This lecture explores innovative criteria for evaluating and comparing welfare distributions, economic mobility, and growth, moving beyond a strictly individualistic approach. It first introduces theoretical frameworks that incorporate social emotions such as compassion and envy into welfare assessments. It then examines how to establish robust welfare evaluations and rankings of distributions when transitioning from a static to a dynamic perspective. Finally, it presents empirical analyses based on Cross-National Equivalent File (CNEF) data from Australia, Korea, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States, highlighting the significance of these new perspectives in assessing economic and distributive dynamics.
