New pathways for qualitative and quantitative approaches in contemporary SCM research
Wieland, Andreas
Copenhagen Business School, Denmark
The Journal of Supply Chain Management is dedicated to promoting empirical research and welcomes both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. However, qualitative studies in the Journal tend to use a limited range of methodologies. For example, the use of non-positivist qualitative approaches – unlike in other management disciplines – is only slowly gaining momentum despite the potential. Similarly, recent quantitative advances have not been fully integrated into the supply chain management discipline. New databases and new methods for quantitative data analysis are now available, but these are rarely taught in methods courses. This workshop aims to broaden the methodological repertoire available to SCM researchers. Participants will explore the latest developments within SCM, draw insights from other disciplines, and discuss potential future developments. This session is designed to enhance innovativeness of research in SCM and to encourage a comprehensive and diverse methodological approach in future submissions to the Journal.
