Collaboration for environmental sustainability: drivers and configurations of collective action in multi-tier supply chains

Madonna, Alice

University of Bergamo, Italy

Climate action is now more needed than ever as the consequences of past pollution and climatic anomalies are amassing and becoming more frequent to the point that climate change is undeniable. Academic literature cannot yet fully support the transition towards a net zero economy, as a vast majority of it has observed sustainability as an obligation for companies to integrate. As a consequence of this top-down nature that sustainability has assumed, several firms have symbolically adopted it to showcase compliance with the requests, This dissertation proposal aims to observe what factors foster the adoption of substantive approaches and which lead to the opposite direction. In particular, three main research questions are formulated to delve into (i) what cross-level linkages impact collective action, (ii) what practices are developed as underying initiatives of said collective action, and (iii) why do collective action is successful over time. Lastly, nuances are sought through the differentiation between supply chain positions.

Sustainable packaging development for circular supply chain management

Ntouli, Evangelia

University Of Western Macedonia, Greece

The central aim of this research is to conduct a thorough examination of the multifaceted role and impacts of sustainable packaging within contemporary supply chain management. The study seeks to uncover the complexities associated with the adoption, execution, and consequences of sustainable packaging practices across different sectors and contexts. By exploring diverse aspects including environmental effects, economic viability, stakeholder involvement, and consumer behavior, the research intends to provide a detailed understanding of the intricate relationships between sustainable packaging and broader supply chain operations. This investigation is crucial for advancing knowledge in supply chain sustainability and contributing insights that can inform strategic decisions aimed at enhancing environmental responsibility and operational efficiency within supply chains.

Analysis of the Agribusiness Production Matrix in the State of Paraná, Brazil: Strategies for Resource Allocation and Local Development

Monte Freire Filho, Fernando Célio

State University of Western Paraná, Brazil

This project analyzed the impact of agricultural production on ICMS transfers to municipalities in Paraná, highlighting the strategic importance of this sector for regional development. Using statistical techniques, government data analyses, and digital tools, significant patterns and trends were identified in ICMS distribution and the contribution of agricultural products to the Gross Value of Production (VBP). The results underscored the relevance of municipalities like Toledo, Castro, and Cascavel, driving products such as pork, poultry, and soybeans for the state economy. The dissemination of results through an accessible digital platform was emphasized as a valuable tool to support more informed decision making by public officials. Practical recommendations were proposed, including promoting agricultural production diversification, capacity-building policies for rural producers, and sustainability measures. These strategies aim not only to drive immediate economic growth but also to ensure long-term sustainable development, contributing to the population's quality of life and environmental preservation. These actions are essential for strengthening agribusiness and maximizing ICMS transfers, representing fundamental opportunities and responsibilities in building a prosperous and equitable future for Paraná. In context, the government provides relevant data for the study, while our project transforms this data into actionable and understandable information for public officials' decision-making and public understanding.
