There are additional options available for each review form category when you enable the
expert settings.
Please go to:
Overview => Settings => Review Form Options and Factors… and click on “Edit Labels and Ratings” for any of the “Categories of Reviews” that you want to edit (see image 1).
Please
activate the expert settings by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking on the "Expert Settings Disabled" or the cogwheel icon.
- You can change the layout of the scales and switch them from a vertical scale (default setting) to a horizontal scale. Go to the section “Values/Options of Criterion” and change the option “* Scale Type for Values / Options” to one of the available settings. You can choose from three different horizontal scales (see image 2). The first one shows a label for each option, the second one a score for each option as well as a label for the first and last option, and the last one shows neither labels nor scores for each option, but only for the first and last option (see image 3).
- You can add a text field to each criterion to allow reviewers to comment on their rating. Please go to the bottom of the page and enable an optional or a mandatory text field for comments via the option “* Text Field for This Criterion”. Continue to define a “Label of Text Field”. Once activated, reviewers can / have to enter comments for each criterion separately (see image 4).
This feature is independent of the option “Comments for the Authors”.
You could for example disable overall comments regarding the submission as a whole and only allow comments for each criterion.
Please note that you can hide the scores and comment text fields of each criterion from authors in the review results. Please go to:
Overview => Settings => Review Form Options and Factors
Via the option “Show Review Categories and Scores to Authors” choose the setting “No, show only ‘textual’ categories” when you want to hide the scores and only show textual ratings and text comments for each criterion. Please choose the setting “No, do not show any categories or scores” when you want to hide all review categories with scores and comments completely (see image 5).
