Topic: Preventing online credit card payments from selected countries

We receive a lot of fake registrations with the aim of getting a visa invitation only, and many of the registered persons pay online by credit card using our online payment gateway. It seems that often these card details are stolen, as we had already to pay significant chargeback fees.
Can we prevent this and disallow online payments from certain countries?

In general, such registrations are indeed the attempt to get an official visa invitation letter in connection with the registration for conference attendance. An overview about this topic and how to handle these registrations can be found here:

Several clients asked for a feature to prevent online payments from certain areas or countries. If you are using an online payment gateway, you are able to edit the payment options for your conference accordingly.

To do so, please go to:
Overview => Settings => Manage Payment Options
and enable the expert settings on the bottom of the page by clicking on the cogwheel icon.

Now you can change the setting "Prevent Online Payments for Certain User Groups" at your discretion. This feature disables the option to pay online for participants from specific countries, instead these users will only get access to the ConfTool fax statement that allows them to fill in their card details and to fax them to you. Experience shows that this option is hardly used and registration will be tried at another conference instead.

To enter the contact details for the fax statement, you have to temporarily enable "Fax with credit card details" and provide your address and fax number for the statement (see Image 1).
After saving this data, you can disable “Fax with credit details” again.

Now the option to pay online via "credit card" is shown to all participants during the registration process, but after registration, for participants from the selected countries only the fax statement will be visible.

Please note: If you use the option "Prevent online payments for users from countries where the ‘Special Payment Option’ is set", you can also edit the list of countries.

Please go to:
Overview => Settings => Settings for User Registration => Manage the List of Countries
and select a country by clicking on the button “Edit Country Details”. Again, you have to enable the expert settings to update the “Special Payment Option” for this country (see Image 2).

Per default, the following countries have the “special payment option”: Afghanistan, Angola, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Benin, Botswana, Belarus, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Colombia, Cape Verde, Djibouti, Algeria, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Jordan, Kenya, Comoros, North Korea, Liberia, Lesotho, Libya, Morocco, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Mongolia, Mauritania, Mauritius, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, Pakistan, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Sao Tome and Principe, Syria, Swaziland, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Tanzania, Ukraine, Uganda, Vietnam, Mayotte, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
